Half a century ago, there was such an enormous demand for children's mounts that an entirely new breed was created to meet this need for safe, dependable ponies. Called the Pony of the Americas (POA), the breed is a standout for its unique spotted coat, its child-safe size, and its amenable nature. Black Hand, with his remarkable appearance, winning ways, and hand-shaped marking on his left flank, was one of the three founding sires of this entirely American breed. He left an indelible influence on the POA breed as he has been found in the pedigree of many of the nearly 50,000 POAs foaled since the 1950s! Age 8+
