ROWDY YATES MUSTANG

Breed: Colonial Spanish Mustang     Color: Grullo

A true living legend, Rowdy Yates is a direct descendent of the horses brought to the Americas during the Colonial Spanish period. The breed survived sailing to the New World and adapted to a vastly different and hostile environment. Also called the Horse of the Americas, Spanish Mustang, Barb, Original Indian Horse, or even Cayuse - by whatever name - these tough, smooth riding, intelligent and historic horses are still proving their worth for today's riders while serving as a living, breathing, historical icon of America's Old West. Rowdy Yates, known as the winningest Spanish Colonial American Mustang, exemplifies this spirit of perseverance. Registered with the Horse of the Americas, the American Indian Horse Registry, the Spanish Mustang Registry, and the Southwest Spanish Mustang Association, Rowdy Yates is one of the most decorated stallions within the four registries. He has won the American Indian Horse Hall of Fame and the Spanish Mustang Registry Grande Conquistador, as well as numerous other awards. Rowdy competes in American Indian Horse Association and open shows, gymkhanas, and competitive trail rides and represents his breed at exhibitions and demonstrations! Age 8+.

THE FULL STORY:    Rowdy Yates was bred by Caballos de Destino in Pringle, South Dakota and first came to live with owner Vickie Ives at Karma Farms when he was two years old. He is registered with the Horse of the Americas, the American Indian Horse Registry, the Spanish Mustang Registry, and the Southwest Spanish Mustang Association and is one of the most decorated stallions within the four registries. Rowdy has won the American Indian Horse Hall of Fame and the Spanish Mustang Registry Grande Conquistador, as well as numerous other awards including Champion Original at Halter and Champion Original Performance at the AIHR National Show and many other overall performance awards. Rowdy began his working career at age four, competing in American Indian Horse shows, open shows, gymkhana type games, and competitive trail riding (nearing 1000 miles in NATRC competitions) as well as representing his breed at exhibitions and demonstrations around the Southwest, even in local Renaissance Fairs! Rowdy Yates is proud but friendly and loves people. Though he stands only 13'3", no horse has a bigger heart. He is tough, agile and his shuffling foxtrot eats up the miles. He kindly served as Vickie’s "therapeutic horse" as she recovered her ability to ride after a very serious injury. Sharing many miles and scores of shows and appearances with Rowdy has been one of the joys of Vickie’s life, and she continues to ride and enjoy him today.
